Spice it up...

Like most Sunday afternoons when the boys go down for naps so do we. It is the one day out of the week that Paul and I get naps. So, one can understand why we would want to prolong it as long as we can. As usual the boys wake up before we do and usually either play in their room or come downstairs and turn on a movie or something. Today fell somewhere in the "or something" category.

All I have to say is that it was a good thing that Paul came downstairs first. It was the "OOOOOOHHHHH, WOOOOOOW!! Mommy is not going to be happy when she sees this." I hear this as I am getting up from my nap preparing myself for something really bad. What was it? Marker, pen, crayon? Then I hear, "Are you cooking something?" Okay, what? Flower, sugar, water, what could they have done to kitchen while they were "cooking"? I come downstairs and this is what I saw.

Paul said that he came downstairs and both boys were standing on the counter. They managed to empty out lots of spices. Luckily they didn't get the liquid bottles like mapeline, almond flavoring, and FOOD COLORING open. Oh, could you even imagine. I pulled out the vacuum and put them to work cleaning it up. Noah just kept apologizing. I wasn't sure exactly which spices were mixed, but it was so strong that Paul and I were getting sick. I think I swept the floor three times to get it all. (I hate when you step on the floor filled with cookie decoratings and you feel it on the bottoms of your feet.)

It's a good thing that it was only in the corner of the kitchen. It was all over the counter, inside the cupboards, and all over the stove. As we were cleaning up I was glad that the boys were safe and I was thinking of things a lot worse that they could have been doing or gotten into.

This is what Gabe looked like when Paul found him. He has those colored cookie decorating dots all over his face.

Here are the poor spices that didn't make it. The one in the middle, Rosemary, was completely full and is now completely empty.

So, moral of the story is, if you are going to take a nap on a Sunday afternoon and you hear the boys come in your room when you are sleeping then it must be time to get up.

Sadly this is what my kitchen looked like after I made cupcakes today without help from the kids. I like the locks on the door thing.

Don't you LOVE it when they find ways to entertain themselves? I'm glad it wasn't all over the kitchen, but it looks like it was still plenty of work! The stove couldn't have been fun.

Wow, and you'd think the cupboard was safe, but they climb! yeah, that wouldn't have been too much fun too clean. Your trip to St. George sounded like fun, some of it!
I've been so busy w/baseball and marching band, haven't been able to post lately. Take care!

Holy cow!!! Kids are so creative...don't you love the heart-stopping moment when you realize that they could have really done something WORSE?

Okay, that was just to try and make you feel better! ;) I'm with you. I hate the prickly feeling of little stuff on hard floors. I totally laughed at Gabe's cute grin...he doesn't even look guilty! Except for the stuff on his face, of course!

I have a sinking feeling that I will wake up many times to situations like this. My little Ethan is only 16 months old but already gets into everything. Unfortunately, he has also already figured out how to get around the child safety locks. Little Stinker!!!!

I'm sure you just had to laugh after the initial shock! I agree that you were lucky, it could have been worse!

I have had more experiences like this than I'd like to count. Obviously I don't learn my lesson very quickly. In fact, that's what my kitchen floor and table look like every morning except it's cereal instead of spices.

That is so awesome. Now I don't feel so bad about my kids and their crazy creations. We need to write a book about these "crazy creations" :) Scotty and I laughed for a while about this one.
